Boat Rental Maspalomas — 2027 Guide: the Dunes from the Sea, Family Trips and Sunset

Maspalomas is where people come on Gran Canaria for the sun: the dunes, the long beaches of Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas, the promenade in Meloneras and the seafront hotels. If you are staying here, you are less than half an hour from a boat. Private boats mostly depart from the small marina of Pasito Blanco, from where two to four hours are enough to reach the lighthouse and the dunes, the beaches towards Puerto Rico, or a sunset off the coast. This guide is for guests who are already in the south of the island and want a short trip rather than a full day at sea.

How to get to the boat from Maspalomas and Meloneras

Boats depart from Pasito Blanco, a small marina about 3 km west of Meloneras. By taxi it is around ten minutes from the hotels in Meloneras and 15–20 minutes from Playa del Inglés.

Short routes of 2 to 4 hours

Distances are from Pasito Blanco, measured by sea and rounded:

  • The Maspalomas lighthouse and dunes (about 1.5 to 3 nautical miles, 10–20 minutes by motorboat): from the sea you see the lighthouse at the end of the Meloneras promenade, and behind it the sand dunes stretching to Playa del Inglés. Off the beaches the boat stays outside the swimming zones marked with buoys.
  • Arguineguín and Anfi del Mar (about 3.5 to 4.5 miles): a fishing village and a bay with white sand; west of Pasito Blanco the sea is usually calmer, so this is a good stop for swimming and snorkelling.
  • Puerto Rico and Amadores (about 6 miles, half an hour by RIB or an hour by catamaran): sheltered beaches below steep slopes and clear water for swimming.
  • Puerto de Mogán (about 9 miles): going there and back takes longer, so it fits a full-day charter rather than a short trip.

East of the lighthouse, towards Playa del Inglés, wind and waves are often stronger than on the western side. If someone in your group is prone to seasickness, choose a morning departure and a route to the west.

A family trip

  • A catamaran is the most stable choice for children and older guests: a large cockpit, shade and steps into the sea at the stern.
  • Blue Spirit offers snorkelling gear, fins, floating mattresses and a stand up paddle board on its three-hour trip, and lunch and drinks are included.
  • Life jackets for children: give the children's ages in your enquiry.
  • Dolphins: they are often seen along the south coast, but an encounter is not guaranteed. The boat keeps its distance and does not follow the animals.

A sunset trip

In winter the sun sets around 6 pm, and in summer around 9 pm. Departing two to three hours earlier and heading west towards Arguineguín leaves enough time for a swim and a return at sunset. On clear days the peak of Teide on Tenerife can be seen on the horizon to the west. After sunset it gets cool at sea even in winter, so bring a jacket.

The season for guests from northern Europe

  • Winter is the main season: daytime temperatures are usually 22–24 °C, and the sea is around 19–20 °C. Around Christmas, New Year and Easter, book ahead.
  • Summer brings stronger trade winds and choppier seas in the afternoon, especially around the south-eastern tip of the island.

No. All our boats in Maspalomas are rented with a skipper included in the price, so you simply enjoy the ride, the swimming and the views of the coast.

When is the season and what should I bring?
